Eco Fashion for Men

Men seem to be left out of The Eco Fashion Movement. Oh yah, well how many t shirts do you need? What about great styled clothes made in a sustainable way ? www.mensecofashion.com
Perhaps you want a vest, a great pair of pants or a jacket but you just can't find it. At Hermans Eco We make all the hard stuff. So do some of my friends. I will tell you who I like and why. I won't be recommending things made in China . If its off shore it's hard to tell what their values are. Now they have many certificates, but wait are theses worth the paper they are written on ? When selling to Europe most the seals are different. I don't know who to use or who to trust. I guess I will just follow my instincts . In the beginning Eco Fashion was a grassroots movement.  Now  there is more money in it and  the rules have changed .Transparency is a very good thing. However if you are shopping at a company  where most of their goods are made in Sweatshops maybe its not real. Indigenous Designs has a chip on their price tag that shows you who made the clothes . Propetik makes it's goods in The US like we do at Hermans Eco  and they do a lot of Natural Dying. I'll be adding more to the list  later .
I have being reading so called articles about Eco Fashion many  start something like this. The 10 Best Eco Fashion Companies. I was wondering why none of my Eco Designer friends are ever listed. It's a paid for ad disguise. The companies they are promoting are paying for . You have to follow the money trail. I don't expect Fast Fashion Companies to change. Money is very important to them . The way we will change the Men's Fashion world is by what we spend . Yes it does matter . These big companies are ruining our environment , they don't care much .  Big Fashion  Corporations want you to think they care but actions speak louder than words. H & M got caught  burning the clothes that were donated to be recycled. Wow ! I want you men to make your own judgements. To  much greenwashing going on.

  Tomorrow wear Show in Hollywood

Let's talk about the clothes in this picture. I really like it when my Models look American . The tan shirt is made of organic cotton Grown in Texas  dyed with natural black walnut. The pants are made of saved Vintage cotton . The Mexican striped shirt is a vintage tablecloth . Somebodies Granny saved it for years. It's from the 50's. The white pants are my Organic Cotton mens yoga pants. I made them for years .
When The Eco Fashion  movement started men became aware . Often they would have their friends  make something cool for them as you just couldn't find it . Now it's a little better , growing all the time.
Tips. Bamboo is mostly broken down with acid processing and is not earth friendly.
Tencel is broken down to micro pieces so small it can get trapped in the lungs similar  to asbestos . Not Recommended.
If you buy something wash it first. They put a bunch of chemicals on clothes . I want my wrinkles  back.
I used to  make clothes from hemp a lot while I like it . I quite buying it  since  it was coming from China. It was 100% hemp  not blended with plastic or tencel . China have a long list of violations and don't share my Green values.  Now my line is mostly found secondhand vintage natural fabrics and organic cotton .Some of the organic cotton  is low impact dyed some is Natural grown colored from Peru, some is natural dyed.

I'm showing At The Mid Atlantic Green Wedding Showcase Feb 27 2011

I've putting some Wedding Garb. The Green Wedding Show Case   http://www.greenweddingshowcase.com/ecofashionshow.shtml
After I went to Paris  I became inspired to  Making gowns again.
So I pulled out the Vintage fabric & the Hemp Silk and went to town.
Then I started repurposing right up  my alley. I started in vintage . I had a vintage shop in Missoula Mt . I put in some things I had made they sold I made more. Its really fun being Indie . it gives me the freedom to design as I please You never know when you'll have a great idea.
I can't wait to se what everyone else is putting in the show. Lots of talent . I was surprized so much was made in the States. Stay tuned. I hope that I am  influencing others who have a dream.  I say go for it . Its going to take all of us to change the planet

Slow ECO Fashion

Hermans ECO INC. has always  done one of a kind pieces. Buying  great vintage cloth  that was never used and making clothes . When I first started  it kept me in Business. Low cost and no outstanding debt. I have ideas for all the  things I collect . I can make a beach blanket bingo pants from that or  thats a pictorial, its the endangered species series ETC. I have  many trims you just can't go out to the store and buy them  . now it seems they are mostly ugly & polyester. Not that I'm picky !!!!!
Then you need to know how to sew. When I started I wasn't that good of a seamtress . Sewing is not valued in  Amerca and it should be its hard work. My customers liked my originals it anyway. I didn't even know there was a front & back to a sleeve.  Slow Eco  is great because you don't have to make 500 of one thing. Its great for US production. Then I can just take a picture  and put it on the internet . I   can make something similair but I'm out of exactly that. The Fashion world has alwas tried to make me feel like I'm not big enough or good enough, but I am . Hey when  you are getting knocked off you are good enough . The supreme complement.
So I want all of you to start and make something it doesn't have to be perfect. enjoy.
Eco Fashion   is often still made in  sweatshops.  Just because its  organic doesn't mean the people who made it were paid well.  Do you think they are  making ECO Fashion in LA in the Sweatshops where the illegals are being paid under the table $ 2.00 an hour ? Sure . That makes me Mad. So buy less, pay alittle more & get a ethically made  pair of shorts or what ever you want. Feel free to  comment . Change is coming .
